Distinguished Lecture Series: Feedback

Posted on Sunday, May 12, 2013

Presented by Professor Shervin Moloudi.

  • When: Wednesday, May 15th 6:00PM - 8:00PM

  • Where: Shannon Room (ENGR IV 54-134)

Feedback is arguably one of the most important, yet least revered, principles of engineering. Feedback is the reason almost everything around us works, and hidden in its simplicity is an enormous power surely missed at first sight. When electrical engineer Harold Black applied to secure a patent for the negative feedback amplifier, it took nine years to convince the patent office that it would work, since the concept was so contrary to established beliefs. Without feedback in electronic systems we would likely still be in the proverbial caves of electrical engineering.

We will talk about what most people think feedback is and what it really is. We will also clear up some misunderstandings, myths, and little known facts surrounding feedback. The talk will be easy to follow for sophomore and junior EE, CS, and possibly MAE students, so please bring your questions and enthusiasm as you spend an hour getting to know feedback.

Food is provided as a courtesy of HKN. Be sure to bring a pencil, paper, and an eager mind!
